The ColorPalooza festival will be hold on Saturday, April 9. The theme of the event is “A Celebration of Spring.” The outdoor festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Old Town Lewisville. #LVColorPalooza

ColorPalooza will feature a wide variety of exhibits and interactive events with a “spring feel” for the whole family. Festival admission will be free, although some activities might carry a nominal charge. Visitors will get to show off their artistic abilities, watch skilled artists create one-of-a kind sculptures and paintings, and learn how to better care for the Earth and make their homes more environmentally friendly. There also will be emphasis on interactive events for children, including inflatable play structures and creative arts and crafts stations.

Some of the planned activities at ColorPalooza:

Chalk This Way – Put your chalk artistic skills on display for everyone to see. The City of Lewisville is partnering with the Lakeside Arts Foundation on this activity, a continuation of the sidewalk chalk festival held in Old Town Lewisville the past three years. It will include amateur and professional chalk art as well as a chalk art scholarship contest. For more information on the scholarship contest visit www.chalkthisway.org.

DIY Tie-Dye Station – Admit it, you’d wear tie-dye more often if you could tell people you created the design. Here’s your chance. Buckets of water and colorful dye will be provided. Visitors can buy a plain white t-shirt, pick out what colors they want and create their own design with the help of event staff.

Found-Object Art Corporate Challenge – Local businesses will get to show off the creativity of their employees in this competition. Employees will design artistic masterpieces using “trash” items commonly found in their workplace. Maybe it’s a coat hanger or a light bulb or an old soda case that sets the piece apart. Awards will be presented for a Juried Winner and a People’s Choice Winner. Companies interested in taking part in this competition can call 972.219.8446 for the full contest rules.

Plein Aire Art Stations – Watch in amazement as skilled artists ply their craft right before your eyes. Open air artists will be stationed at various locations around the festival so visitors can watch a painting from start to finish. Artists will rotate at each station throughout the festival.

Hands-On Art for Kids - Children wanting to show off their creative skills will be right at home at this event. They’ll get their chances to impress visitors with their own coloring, painting and clay skills. Out of the minds of kids come some of the most vibrant and eye-catching pieces of work.

Art Demonstration Center – This area will showcase artists of all mediums who will show how they create thought-provoking expressions of art. Creativity is not limited to just paintings. Watch as skilled craftspeople create colorful ceramics and other works of art.

Eco-Alley – Anyone curious about the latest environmental technologies, or steps that can be taken to make a home more Earth-friendly, will find plenty of information and inspiration in this area. Keep Lewisville Beautiful, LLELA Nature Preserve and others will be on hand giving live demonstrations and presentations on multiple environmental topics.

LISD Environmental Impact Challenge Awards – This contest is sponsored by Lewisville ISD PTA and is part of the “Green Impact Challenge.” open to all LISD students from Pre-K through 12th grade. Students create posters that deal with environmental issues. Those works of art are then judged for how well they present and address the issue. The winning creations will be on display during ColorPalooza for visitors to enjoy.

ColorPalooza: A Celebration of Spring promises to be just what visitors need to break out of the winter blues. Food trucks and vendors will be part of the event featuring all kinds of food choices including some with vegan and organic menus. There also will be a combination of strolling musicians and bands playing on the stage at Wayne Ferguson Plaza. Visitors will be entertained by a number of cultural music and dance groups.

Come out to ColorPalooza to be entertained, educated and inspired. It all happens April 9, 2016, in historic Old Town Lewisville. Get out of the house and enjoy a day of art, music and the wonders of spring. For more information contact Daren Watkins at 972.219.3710.
