Siona Benjamin is a painter, originally from Bombay, India, and now living in New York, whose multi-media works reflect her complex cultural background and her desire to contribute to a re-evaluation of concepts of identity and race toward mutual understanding. The selected paintings and installations that will be on exhibit in the UNT Art Gallery cover a decade of artistic expression from 2004-2014 and reveal Benjamin’s continuing exploration into physical and religious identities, place, and notions of belonging. This exhibition was organized with Lisa Owen and Jennifer Way, CVAD Art History Program.
This show's opening will be on March 3rd from 5-7 pm, with a gallery talk with Benjamin at 6 pm.
On view March 3 through April 2, 2016
