David H. Gibson: Photographs (Recent and Vintage)

Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden

Valley House Gallery in Dallas, Texas, presents David H. Gibson's solo exhibition "Photographs (Recent and Vintage)" from February 25 through April 1, 2023.

This exhibition includes recent color photographs of Eagle Nest Lake in New Mexico and Cypress Creek in Wimberley, Texas, as well as the Texas Gulf Coast. A selection of vintage gelatin silver photographs is on view as well.

John Rohrbach, Senior Curator of Photographs at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, writes about David H. Gibson's photography:

"Amid a world preoccupied with conflict, division, and ecological challenge, David Gibson asks us to slow down and attend to the healing power of nature's splendors. By focusing on its extended flux, and especially the poetry of its moisture-touched changing light, he reveals the rewards of quiet attention."

Dallas artist David H. Gibson was born in 1939 in rural Kentucky. Following self-directed photographic studies via workshops, Gibson's first solo exhibition was presented by Eastman Kodak Marketing Education Center in Rochester, New York, in 1990, followed by his first gallery exhibition "A Reverent Eye" at Valley House Gallery in the same year.

David H. Gibson's perception of light conditions was enhanced by his early career in theater lighting for Dallas Summer Musicals and the Dallas Theater Center.  His motivation in photography is to convey special moments and light events in nature, mostly at dawn.  All of his photographs have been produced in his own studio.

This is Valley House Gallery's eleventh solo exhibition of photographs by David H. Gibson.

Another opportunity to see David H. Gibson's photography is the exhibition "Morning Light: The Photographs of David H. Gibson" at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, January 14 - May 21, 2023.
