Documentary Screening "The Queen Professor Holds Court"


African American Museum of Dallas

This documentary takes a look at the storied career and life of iconic Dallas storyteller, author and professor, Dr, Njoki McElroy. In the film, Dr. McElroy and a former student meet in the classroom on SMU's campus where in 2012, the student was the director of the class production. Overcoming challenges and influenced by Dr. McElroy, the student goes on to become the first African American male to earn a Ph.D. from Arizona State University. With archival photos, videos, and performances of Dr. McElroy and her students, we get to know one of the most legendary storytellers and professors in Texas. There will Q and A, featuring Dr. McElroy and Dr. Donta McGilvery, the former student featured in the documentary.
