Join artist John Bramblitt for a special reception on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 6-8 p.m., celebrating his exhibition, "Bramblitt: From the Beginning" at the Lewisville Grand Theater. Visitors are welcome to explore the gallery and meet the artist.
About the Exhibition:
Very often, when someone first learns that artist John Bramblitt is a completely blind painter, the first thing they do is look at his paintings to see if they can see the blindness. Trying to find any hint or subtle tell that shows the line between eyesight, insight, and imagination. He understands this compulsion completely as he too has been obsessed with what it means to perceive the world around us, and how we use our perceptions to communicate with one another. It has been this fascination with perception that drove him to become one of the very first visually impaired painters and the world’s first blind muralist.
"Bramblitt: From the Beginning" is a reflection of the past 20 years: a snapshot of his process, pain, and eventual calmness that he found in front of an easel. This is the first time he has looked all the way back to when he first created the techniques to paint without sight, and then on to each subsequent series as an adventure in subject matter, color exploration, and discovering new techniques. On this journey his artwork has gone to more than 120 countries; he has been appointed as a cultural ambassador by the state department; and he has discussed his art in some of the most respected museums in the world. Yet, he feels like he has barely begun his adventure into art and understanding how we truly perceive the world around us.
