Arts & Letters Live: Temple Grandin

Dallas Museum of Art

Temple Grandin—dubbed the “anthropologist from Mars” (Oliver Sacks)—forever changed the way the world understood autism with her bestselling memoir Thinking in Pictures. Her latest book, Visual Thinking, showcases her talent for demystifying science by using cutting-edge research to illustrate the different ways our brains are wired. Grandin reveals, celebrates, and advocates for the special minds and contributions of visual thinkers. She also makes us understand how a world increasingly geared to the verbal tends to sideline visual thinkers, and proposes new approaches to educating, parenting, employing, and collaborating with visual thinkers. Temple Grandin is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University and the author of several New York Times bestselling books, including Thinking in Pictures, which became an award-winning HBO movie starring Claire Danes. Grandin's TEDTalk "The World Needs All Kinds of Minds" has garnered more than six million views.
