Book Signing with Dr. Bernice A. King at Galleria Dallas

Galleria Dallas

Dr. Bernice King, as CEO of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center For Nonviolent Social Change (The King Center), has continued the legacy of her parents, Coretta Scott King and Dr. Martin Luther King, teaching nonviolent social change. In her work, she has reached not only adults with these principles, but children as well. Dr. King will bring her message to Galleria Dallas on Saturday, Aug. 20 as she and Dr. Kimberly Johnson read their impactful children’s book, “It Starts with Me,” in a free book signing event at 11:30 a.m. on Level 3 of the shopping center adjacent to the Children’s Play Place.

In It Starts with Me, readers join a young girl, Amora, as she encourages her friends to BE LOVE™. She shows them how to open their hearts and minds by allowing love to drive their words, actions and thoughts. The book shares the premise that through love, we can create a world where everyone feels like they belong, as Amora introduces readers to the Beloved Community, a place where each person finds what inspires them to make the world a better place. More importantly, it is where everyone has an opportunity to live and grow. It Starts with Me is a reminder that while we all can contribute to making the world better, we have to know that it starts with each of us taking a stand and finding our voice.

Drs. King and Johnson will read the story in this free event at 11:30 a.m. Following the reading, at 12 p.m., they will sign books and meet with guests.

A special kiosk will be onsite adjacent to the Play Place on both Friday, Aug. 19 and Saturday, Aug. 20 selling the book and other merchandise affiliated with the BE LOVE™ movement. All proceeds from sales of the book and other merchandise go to The King Center to further the mission of creating a more inclusive, just, humane and equitable world.
