Bigger Than Budweiser: A Talk With Dr. Todd Barnett Over Adolphus Busch's Investments in the Lone Star State

Old City Park

Would you like to learn more about Adolphus Busch's lasting impressions on Texas?

Join us Thursday evening for a free reception followed by a talk given by Dr. Todd Barnett from Trinity University. Dr. Barnett will be shedding light on the complexities of Busch’s business operations in Texas, from his initial technological and logistical breakthroughs with Anheuser-Busch that allowed industrial breweries from St. Louis and elsewhere to dominate the Texas beer market, to the independent breweries he founded in San Antonio, Galveston, Houston, and Fort Worth, to his various interrelated investments throughout the state, such as hotels, railroads, and ice companies. Additionally, we examine the Texan social, political, and economic landscape in the Gilded Age and Progressive Era of the late 1800s and early 1900s, and how rising populist, nativist, and prohibitionist sentiments affected Busch’s career in Texas.
