Join Fred Mutebi and Lesli Robertson live from from the barkcloth making region of Bukomansimbi, Uganda! We will be at the Bukomansimbi Organic Tree Farmers Association (BOTFA) where we will meet master barkcloth makers, tour their workshop, and explore the surrounding ecosystem of mutuba trees.

In this workshop, you will be working with barkcloth sourced from 9th generation barkcloth makers from the BOTFA in Uganda. You will learn how bark is pounded into supple cloth, tour Fred’s studio to see the experiments that he is conducting, and learn about its use in culture, from coronations to funerals.This workshop will bring you into their process and give you tools and insight into exploring the surface design possibilities of this cloth on your own! Paint, stitch, and deconstruct - Learn three approaches to transforming the surface of barkcloth. This workshop is suitable for all levels.
