Entitled L.inking, this exhibition showcases contemporary woodblock prints by international and American artists with a focus on traditional and reinterpreted applications of the Japanese technique, mokuhanga. Used to create popular ukiyo-e (“picture of the floating world”) prints in the 17th and 18th centuries, mokuhanga is experiencing a revitalization and expanding its influence on contemporary artists around the world. The exhibition will highlight mokuhanga woodcut as an accessible contemporary art medium, generating and sustaining creating broad interest and awareness. Educational materials such as tools, woodblocks, and step-by-step proofs will accompany the artwork from artists around the globe.
