Rapsodia de un Pueblo (Coronada y el Toro /Coronada and the Bull), the masterpiece of Francisco Nieva (1924-2016) dramatizes the conflict between a brother and a sister over a bullfighting feast in a Spanish town. Coronada condemns the event and pleads with the authorities to remove Zebedeo from power as the town’s mayor. When her plea is ignored, he puts her under house arrest. The play highlights issues of authoritarianism, the quest for justice, and the tension between patriarchal power and freedom.
