GDAC and Embassy Suites have partnered to showcase our talented city in two exhibitions spaces in the lobby of the Embassy Suites Hotel & Denton Convention Center. One space near the Houlihan’s Restaurant highlights Denton-centric artwork by local artists. Drew Gaines is our featured artist for Springs & Summer 2022.
Drew Gaines Artist Statement
This collection of art prints by local painter Drew Gaines depicts a slice of life here in Denton. Enamored by the historic buildings in the city’s downtown, Drew renders these places with his own stylized realism. Many of these pieces begin as plein-air paintings (painted on location). They aim to celebrate people’s present relationship with their town square and show a bit of the city’s culture.
Drew Gaines bio
Drew Gaines is a visual artist born in Denton, Texas. He works primarily in oil paints depicting local landscapes, the people who inhabit them and scenes from his travels. Mostly self-taught, Drew pursued painting after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in photojournalism from the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas. His passion for storytelling persists through his paintbrush as he uses his studies of photography and observation to make engaging works on canvas. Drew strives to be a chronicler of everyday life and everyday people, beit painting in plein-air on the Square or at his home studio here in Denton.
