Lumedia Musicworks debuts a short comedic documentary film and performance about Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, online. The event is the latest installment of Stories, a celebration of women composers in early classical music.

Dallas-based nonprofit Lumedia is an early classical music ensemble working across multiple mediums to draw in new and diverse audiences. Lumedia offers both live and online performances accompanied by short films it produces. It’s short films have won national and international awards. Lumedia boasts fans from as far away as South Africa and Australia.
De la Cruz (1648-95) was a Mexican nun, writer, poet and composer during the Baroque period. She’s known as the Phoenix of Mexico.
“Sor Juana is a respected philosopher and artist who spoke out against abuses of the Spanish government and the Catholic church,” said Julianna Emanski, Lumedia’s artistic director and a Grammy nominee. “She was a champion for the indigenous people.”
Hannah Ceniseros of Rowlett plays the composer. Jendi Tarde of Lewisville directed the film.
