Art Lab | Printmaking for Kids/Family - Intro to Adinkra w/ Ashley Veulah J

South Dallas Cultural Center

In honor of Thanksgiving, explore and learn the history of printmaking with Adinkra symbols, which are traditionally used on fabrics during celebrations like Homowo.

This workshop lead by artist Ashley Veluah J (The Coloring Boxx) will take a deeper look into Homowo, an annual Festival celebrated by the Ga people of Ghana. Then you will explore the history of printing making, which introduces class to Adinkra, symbols traditionally used on fabrics during celebrations, specifically, Homowo. Lastly, the class will have an opportunity to create and apply basic printmaking methods on selected fabrics.

Class will be using the foam sheet to foam board method, creating various adinkra symbols into individual stamping blocks. Once blocks are created, students will be able to practice methods on selected fabrics. Everyone will see different examples of how fabric can be worn and/or framed, taking home block stamps and information to teach a friend or family member all about the experience. Supplies will be included.

This is a kids and family friendly class - 8 years old and up! There will be two separate classes available with limited seating for 15 people:
