H. Ross Perot Sr.

Allen Public Library

The founder of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and Perot Systems as well as a presidential candidate in 1992 and 1996, H. Ross Perot was one of America’s most admired billionaires.

This Texarkana, Texas, native first gained national attention in 1969 after a failed attempt to deliver medical supplies and gifts to American prisoners of war in Hanoi, North Vietnam. Then in 1979 he successfully organized and sponsored the rescue of two EDS employees held hostage in an Iranian maximum-security prison over a contract dispute that made international headlines.

Award-winning Dallas Morning News columnist  Dave Lieber will discuss his book Searching For Perot: My Journey to Discover Texas’ Top Family at a live event and also virtually at allentx.swagit.com  7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 21, at the Allen Public Library. The program is free. Submit questions until 8:30 p.m. that evening through [email protected]

This Ross Perot story by Dave Lieber is a grand saga of love passed down from generation to generation. And along with that love came strong business values that built the Perot family ethos: Always pursue world-class excellence. As the author points out, running for president is only a small part of the story behind this complicated Texas genius and his philanthropic family.
