Everything is Getting Obscene Except Obscenity: The Work and life of Ken Havis and Ceramic by Carl Block

Opening Reception: Sunday, Sept. 19, from 1-5 p.m.

Exhibition: Available online or in-person on weekends by appointment hours.

Carl Block has been an artist Webb Gallery has represented from our earliest days. He lives here in Waxahachie and is known nationwide for his face jugs and work in ceramics. Carl knew Ken Havis when he went to school at North Texas State University (now UNT) and has endearing stories of his interactions with him. Carl is creating a body of work for this exhibit inspired by Ken’s work.

Ken Havis was a teacher and ran the gallery at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas in the 1970's for many years, but he was most known for being a revolutionary in every aspect of his life through art, fashion, collecting, ritual performances and outrageous house parties.

Ken was a huge collector of cultural artifacts and hosted what he referred to as the “No Museum” at his home. It was filled with various collections and his artwork, installed as fabulous displays of culture, texture, color, and design.
