Ink & Paper: Selections from the University of Dallas Print Collection

University of Dallas (UD) - Beatrice M. Haggerty Gallery

The Beatrice M. Haggerty Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition: Ink & Paper: Selections from the University of Dallas Print Collection

Curated from over 35 years of The University of Dallas Print Invitationals and prints produced by visiting artists in the Matrix printmaking program, Ink & Paper: Selections from the University of Dallas Print Collection brings together this collection prints for the first time. The Exhibition highlights a diverse array of printmaking techniques and artistic styles.

20 print invitational exhibitions were held at the University of Dallas between 1974 and 2008. Professor Juergen Strunck initiated the project and worked with his printmaking students to select work for each exhibition. The invitationals presented an educational opportunity for the students and brought the artwork of some of the country's best printmakers to the University of Dallas for exhibition. The University of Dallas purchased prints from these exhibitions for the University’s art collection.

In 1985, Strunck started the Matrix visiting artist program, which continues today under the stewardship of Associate Professor of Art and Department Chair Steven Foutch. In printmaking, matrix is the term used to describe the elements from which prints are made. At the University of Dallas, matrix is used to describe a program in which advanced printmaking students collaborate with visiting artists to create editions of prints by the artists. It also describes a group of friends of the art department who enjoy prints and support the program. Select prints from past visiting artists are available for purchase.
