This five-week enrichment program of engaging lessons and hands-on small-group projects is designed for students ages 11-13. Weekly sessions focus on computer science and electrical engineering topics at an introductory level, with the goal of encouraging students to pursue STEM fields in the future.
Computer science topics will include: an overview of programming, an introduction to the C++ language, programming fundamentals (pseudocode, basic algorithms, variable types, print statements, if/else statements, for loops, while loops, and arrays). Electrical engineering topics will include: an introduction to Arduino and TinkerCAD, basic Arduino functions, LEDS, basic circuit wiring, and working with breadboards.
Program created and led by engineering students involved with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) chapters at the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) and Southern Methodist University (SMU). The program is free, and registration is required. Ages 11-13
