The Measures and violence of masculinity
Por Maricon is an exhibition that examines masculinity and the violence it carries. Modeled after the Bem Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI), which is a measure of masculinity and femininity used to research gender roles, The Mirandé Sex Role Inventory was created based on dichos and consejos that elders pass on to youth, specifically to reflect traditional Latinx values surrounding men and women. The work in this exhibition takes a closer look at how masculinity is instilled in men and highlights the many forms of violence that exists around homophobia, from physical to emotional and mental abuse.
