Through transparent textiles and voids, Krista Chalkley creates passageways to spaces where malice is replaced with reverence.

a thin place is in reference to a mysterious realm found in ancient Irish folklore, geographic areas where the veil between realities is thin. This “thinness” holds for latent possibilities of ways to relate to each other beyond past and current sociopolitical strife. Softness in texture and hue are aesthetic critiques of rigid thinking. Layers and gradations act as subtle metaphors for the fluidity of gender and the social construction of identity. Through meticulously worked pellucid fibers, Chalkley creates portals to invite viewers into this realm of potential.
