Dance as Activism: Meet Eleo Pomare, A Revolutionary Artist

Beckles Dancing Company (BDC) will provide the dance community with a first-hand account of the late legendary dancer/choreographer, Eleo Pomare’s contribution to the dance world. As a former Eleo Pomare company member, BDC founder Loris Anthony Beckles was a part of this revolutionary dance company that used dance as a vehicle for social justice. Mr. Beckles will have a free 1 hour virtual conversation with dancer choreographer Michelle N. Gibson about how Pomare engaged in the 1960’s social movement, an act that was both challenging and marginalizing for him. This project will enlighten Dallasites about American Black Dance History,
