Oil and Cotton Creative Exchange

VIRTUAL WORKSHOP: Embroidery on Clothing
VIRTUAL CLASS DATE: December 12, 2-4 pm
LOCAL REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 3 days before scheduled workshop
SHIPPING REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 7 days before scheduled workshop
LOCATION: Your home!
INSTRUCTOR: Erin Frisch

Embellish your favorite piece of clothing with some stitching. This class is open to all levels and beginner-friendly. In a virtual workshop, you will learn how to confidently embroider on clothing with a variety of stitches. You will use adhesive, dissolvable fabric stabilizer to easily transfer an embroidery pattern onto clothing. Several original patterns will be provided for you to choose from. Students have the option of creating their own design; please draft a sketch before class. This class is BYOC, bring your own piece of clothing! An embroidery kit with everything else you need will be provided.  Login details will be sent the day before your class.

Class will include an overview of embroidery techniques: selecting materials, creating your own pattern, utilizing fabric stabilizer, and a demonstration of embroidery stitches to get you started. Creativity in color selection, stitching, and following your instinct is highly encouraged with guidance from the instructor. Embroidery takes time and shouldn’t be rushed. Time outside of class may be needed to finish your work.

Choosing Your Piece of Clothing:
Ideal types of fabric are cotton, chambray, thin denim, canvas, and natural fibers. Avoid overly stretchy fabric, fabric with an open weave, and thick fabric that a needle cannot easily pass through. Shirts, dresses, pants, skirts, thin jackets, sweatshirts, tote bags, and backpacks are all welcome. Iron clothing before class, and wash brand new items. Reach out if you have any questions!

Kit includes:
-DMC Embroidery Floss
-Thread Snips
-Adhesive Fabric Stabilizer
-Original Embroidery Patterns
-Embroidery Hoop

Bring your Own Clothing Item! Iron before class, and wash brand new items.

*Local kit pickup is available Tuesday-Friday, 2-4pm at Oil and Cotton. Kits will be left on our back deck or by the back door with your name clearly written. Please email with questions to [email protected].

*Distance learners can have their kits shipped only if you place your order 7 days before the scheduled workshop. Or you can gather the materials included in the kit from home.
