Posing Your Subjects for Natural Portraits - Virtual Event

Dallas Center for Photography

Ask anyone if they prefer a posed or an un-posed (or candid) portrait, and they will ALWAYS say un-posed. Why? Because we all want to look natural and relaxed and confident in our photos –instead of the way we REALLY feel in front of a photographer.  It’s like asking, “Do you like natural or unnatural light?”  But there is more to posing than telling someone where to stand. For most photographers candid portraits are usually more difficult to achieve. And posing is scary.  Let’s explore all the adjustments, large and small, that create a compelling portrait.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • How to give direction to your subjects so that they look (and feel) comfortable during a photo shoot
  • Various setups in the studio or on location to capture genuine portraits
  • What to do differently when working with a group of people vs. just one subject
  • What techniques to use when the photos are turning out too artificial or forced
