VIRTUAL ART WORKSHOP: Stitching Texas Wildflowers (Intermediate Level)

VIRTUAL:  Aug 22 Stitching Texas Wildflowers
CLASS DATE: Saturday, August 22, 2-4 pm
LOCAL REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 3 days before scheduled workshop
SHIPPING REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 7 days before scheduled workshop
LOCATION: Your home!
INSTRUCTOR: Erin Frisch

Indian paintbrushes, prairie cornflowers, black-eyed susans, and bluebonnets. Every spring and summer, native flowers appear as if by magic in our yards, parks and along our highways.

In this virtual workshop, you will capture the beauty of Texas wildflowers with embroidery. Students will embroider their own wildflowers and select 2-3 flowers from six provided wildflower patterns. Students will have the option to draw their own design (please draft a sketch before class). This workshop is intermediate level--for students with some experience with embroidery or hand sewing.

Class will include an overview of embroidery techniques including: selecting materials, preparing your hoop, “painting” with thread using the satin stitch, stitching lettering, and building texture with additional types of stitches. Creativity in color selection, stitching, and following your instinct is highly encouraged with guidance from the instructor. Embroidery takes time and shouldn’t be rushed. Time outside of class will be needed to finish your work. A welcome email will be sent the day before your workshop with login details for the class.

*Local kit pickup is available Tuesday-Friday, 2-4pm at Oil and Cotton. Kits will be left on our back deck or by the back door with your name clearly written. Please email with questions to [email protected].

*Distance learners can have their kits shipped only if you place your order 7 days before the scheduled workshop. Or you can gather the materials included in the kit from home. For this class you will need embroidery floss, thread snips/scissors, light-colored cotton or linen fabric (the light color helps with tracing the design), and an embroidery hoop (8 inches recommended).
