Paintings for a Lost Lover

Ro2 Art in The Cedars

Ro2 is pleased to present Songs for a Lost Lover, a solo exhibition featuring new works by artist Erica Stephens. The show will run from February 22  through March 21, 2020. There will be an opening reception held on Saturday, February 22 from 7-10:00 PM at Ro2’s Cedars gallery located at 1501 S Ervay Street, Dallas, TX 75215.

In Paintings for a Lost Lover, artist Erica Stephens offers exuberant explorations of abstraction and materiality sited in the emotional space of being inspired by and dedicated to a former lover. This work continues her previous examinations of femininity, memory, and the power of unapologetically laying claim to her personal history.

About the Artist

Erica Stephens is an interdisciplinary artist working in painting, sculpture, installation, and writing. Her works often combine art historical themes with elements from the Southern craft traditions that her matriarchs excelled in.

She completed her MFA at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California, where she was granted both the First and the Second Year Graduate Scholarships and was elected by her cohorts as the Class Marshal of the Otis MFA Class of 2007. During her time at Otis, she returned to her passion for literature and regularly attended graduate writing lectures to hear visiting authors speak about their work.

Erica returned to Dallas after her graduate studies and has since taught art courses at various schools, including Eastfield College and University of Texas at Dallas. She particularly delights in teaching Art Appreciation to non-art majors.

Erica Stephens is represented by Ro2 Art in Dallas. She lives in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, where she also maintains her studio. Her first collection of poetry is set to be published in 2020 in conjunction with a solo painting show.
