Francesc Fontbona, member of Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi
Modernisme is the name given to modernist Catalan art produced from the end of the nineteenth century through the beginning of the twentieth century. It was not exactly a style, but an attitude of modernity that manifested itself through naturalism, symbolism, or expressionism. In this lecture, Fontbona will address modernist works in the Meadows Museum collection, including paintings by Catalan modernists, such as Hermen Anglada Camarasa, Joaquim Mir Trinxet, Luis Graner y Arrufi, Ramón Casas, Claudio Castelucho y Diana, and artists like Darío de Regoyos y Valdés, who, while not Catalan, lived and died in Catalonia.
