ex ovo is pleased to present Michael Uttaro: En Route, the New York-based artist’s first exhibition in Texas. For En Route, Uttaro presents two bodies of work: a series of intimate abstractions in oil pastel and ink on paper, and large-scale, digitally-collaged panoramic photographs tracing labyrinthine walks. Both the paintings and photographs emphasize the artist’s acute sense of the passage of time--the progressive inertia of the universe, the relativity of objectivity, an effort to bridge the gap between the time of making and the time of viewing.
Michael Uttaro (b. 1987, New York) received his BFA from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Art and Science, and an MFA from Brooklyn College. He has shown in galleries in New York including Bronx Art Space, Hometown, Moynihan Station, Hunter College, and Giacobetti Paul Gallery, and in Glasgow Scotland, Kyoto Japan. In 2015, he participated in The Snake Gulch Project with New Age Drinks Gallery in Jerome, AZ, a curatorial and residency program that presaged ex ovo. This is his first solo exhibition in Texas.
Founded in 2019, ex ovo is a project space and gallery located in West Dallas run by curator and writer Allison Klion, which provides support to emerging and mid-career artists, working both locally and nationally. With an emphasis on the vision of artists, facilitating relationships between peers, and educational opportunities—ex ovo provides an ongoing program of exhibitions, projects, talks, artist books, screenings, and events.
ex ovo is open Wednesday - Saturday 12 - 6 pm or by appointment.
