There will be an artist reception held on Wednesday, January 15 from 6-8 PM at Ro2’s The  Magnolia Theater gallery located at 3699 McKinney Avenue, Suite 100, Dallas TX 75204.

In her upcoming solo exhibition, Amy Jones Jenkins creates a karma driven narrative inspired by a well-known wolf and 2018 Inktober prompts. These playful compositions first start off as rough drawings on paper, and evolve into fully realized digital drawings on Procreate via IPad.

Artist Statement

My current series of 31 digital drawings is a narrative inspired by a well-known wolf and Inktober prompts in 2018.  I drew a prompt a day with the popular character Big Bad Wolf representing a very evil man I know from real life that was first introduced in the Mercy Me series.

This series of drawings started roughly on paper with ink sometimes not fully figured out and then explored further digitally in Procreate with a pantone palette of reds-and greens on an IPad Pro. I wanted fully realized compositions and a consistent theme to help inspire compositional consideration and a sustained investigation in my Advanced Placement art students work at Boswell High School. My intent was to have fun creating “karma-return” situations for a very bad wolf.  These are my digital beginnings.

About the Artist

Amy Jones Jenkins was born and lives in Fort Worth, Texas.  Her narrative paintings and drawings explore the good versus evil dichotomy in multiple series of works combined with an element of Texas tall tale exaggerations. She loves great Southern storytellers like Flannery O’Connor, Harper Lee, and William Styron. In particular, she is interested in popular art characters playing roles in our common real life experiences. Especially, Amy is exploring catharsis, karma, and revenge with these characters in various media and color schemes.

Amy is a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University where she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art where she studied under Fort Worth painter Ron Tomlinson.  Ron told Amy, “Get out of Texas!” and study painting in New England. She also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Boston University where she studied under painter John Walker.  After graduate school, she was invited to attend the Vermont Studio Center with artists Bernie Chaet and Barbara Grossman for a month long residency. She lived in Boston for three years then moved back to her home state to paint and teach art.  Amy was a Hunting Art Prize Finalist in 2009. Her work has been exhibited in Texas, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.
