Opening Reception: Thursday, January 16, 5-7 pm
Guided Tour: January 21, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm
On Display presents a selection of twenty works on paper from the TCU Permanent Art Collection. Although these works differ in media, size, and content, all explore the broad concept of performance. “Performance” here encompasses literal theatrical performance as well as metaphorical performance, such as labor, religion, or femininity. This exhibition addresses the importance of audience and participation. The work in this exhibition is dynamic and unexpected and will present audience members with a new perspective. The selection represents many different cultural ideas about performance, with works from Texas, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, and more.
Artists featured in On Display include Michael Ayrton, Tom Blackwell, Lee Chesney, Kunisada Gototei, Isamu Hayakawa, George Lockwood, Noel Mahaffey, Gulino Nunzio, Josef Pescenke, Patrick Proctor, Leticia Tarrago, Tomikichirō Tokuriki, Kitagawa Utamaro, and Ádám Würtz.
On January 21st, from 5:30-6:30 pm, the curators will lead a guided tour of selected pieces in the exhibition, followed by a performance by the International Leadership of Texas youth guitar ensemble.
This exhibition considers audience as a vital part of a performance, and we invite you to be a part of that audience.
