In a humble stable in Bethlehem, the light of the world was born. Angels rejoiced as shepherds gathered in awe. All heaven cried out, "Hallelujah!"
In April 1742, George Frideric Handel debuts his oratorio "The Messiah" in Dublin. We now know his work as Handel's Messiah, the holiday staple containing the "Hallelujah" chorus and Handel's most popularly recognized work.
"Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration" runs Handel's themes through a gantlet of black musical forms, beginning with an overture of African drumming and continuing on through spirituals, ragtime, the '70s dance tracks and right into contemporary hip-hop.
The South Dallas Concert Choir, St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church Music Ministry and special guest WJG have teamed up to deliver their rendition of "Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration" an inspiring, joyous musical experience for the Christmas season. We invite you to join the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. This concert is Free & Open to the Public, but donations are encouraged!
