The Life and Work of Charles Dilbeck - Presentation by Willis Winters

Architecture and Design Exchange

The current exhibition at AD EX is Evolving a Personal Style: The Architecture of Charles Dilbeck. Dilbeck (1907-1990) is one of Dallas’ most iconic architects. Combining signature elements of French Norman and Ranch styles through variations, symmetry, and asymmetry, he developed a personal architectural style that is instantly recognizable in his works in Dallas and other cities such as Tulsa. The exhibition employs large-scale photography highlighting a variety of buildings throughout the region to illustrate the common themes running through these unique structures.

Willis Winters, FAIA, is an architect, historian, and Dilbeck expert, having researched the designer’s work for years in preparation for a planned book. In conjunction with the exhibition, Winters will present a detailed look at Dilbeck’s life, career, and work. The talk will examine Dilbeck’s training, the evolution of his architectural style, and a collection of examples of his work across Dallas and elsewhere.

We’ll gather at 6:00 p.m. for refreshments and Willis’ talk will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. RSVP by e-mailing [email protected]. Please include Willis Winters Event in the subject line.
