In this class we will be taking an existing hardcover book and altering it to make an original piece of art. You can paint, sew, tear, fold the pages, cut parts out, collage, glue and more. The list is endless. I will be showing you examples of altered books, as well as some creative techniques,to assist in making the book your own.
You will need one (or more) hardcovers to alter. What exact book is up to you and your intuition. I find inexpensive (sometimes free) hardcovers at Lucky Dog Books and Half Price Bookstore. Lay flat larger books can also be utilized. Some people like older cookbooks, nature guides or other kinds of illustrated material. Thicker books can be used to carve into.
When in doubt, please bring several to the workshop.
