The Art of Architectural Photography

Architecture and Design Exchange

The current exhibition at AD EX is Evolving a Personal Style: The Architecture of Charles Dilbeck. Dilbeck (1907-1990) is one of Dallas’ most iconic architects. Combining signature elements of French Norman and Ranch styles through variations, symmetry, and asymmetry, he developed a personal architectural style that is instantly recognizable in his works in Dallas and other cities such as Tulsa. The exhibition  employs large-scale photography highlighting a variety of buildings throughout the region to illustrate the common themes running through these unique structures.

The exhibition grew out of a workshop taught by noted architectural photographer Carolyn Brown. Participants learned about Dilbeck’s style and history, then documented homes throughout the Dallas area. Participating photographers include: Daisy Avalos, Justin Curtsinger, Lyndall Dyer, Don Essmiler, Gabrielle Pruitt, and Frank Richards.

Join us for a presentation by Carolyn and the participating photographers as they discuss their process and techniques in capturing these iconic structures.

We’ll gather at 6:00 p.m. for refreshments and the talk will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. RSVP by e-mailing [email protected]. Please include Photography Event in the subject line.
