Brettell Lecture: Cézanne in DFW

Dallas Museum of Art

With the gift of the McDermott Collection, the Dallas Museum of Art now has paintings and a major watercolor by Paul Cézanne, the most universally admired French artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. If these works are considered with the two major paintings in the Kimbell Art Museum and the handful of important paintings and watercolors in Dallas private collections, the representation of this canonical artist in DFW is very strong. Art historian Dr. Richard R. Brettell will talk about each of these works in chronological order and consider the ways they collectively reflect the shape of the artist's career as a whole.

Dr. Richard R. Brettell is the Margaret McDermott Distinguished Chair of Art and Aesthetic Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and the Founding Director of the Edith O'Donnell Institute of Art History.
