The Big Deal – Hotel Texas: An Art Exhibition for the President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy Exhibition Book

by Gila Espinoza 20 Nov 2013 8:30 AM

hotel_texas 400x350The day before their trip to Dallas, President Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy had a scheduled stop in Fort Worth. Even though they were in town for only a short time, Fort Worth put out the welcome mat for the President and First Lady.  Within a few days local art collectors, including Amon G. Carter’s daughter Ruth, had organized a world class art exhibition for the First Family. Works by Monet, van Gogh, Thomas Eakins, Henry Moore, Picasso and other masters were installed in the three room presidential suite of the Hotel Texas. The welcoming gesture earned an appreciative phone call from the Kennedys to Ruth Carter.

The art pieces are gathered once again for the exhibition Hotel Texas: An Art Exhibition for the President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy.  The exhibition runs through Jan. 12, 2014 at the Amon Carter Museum. But before you visit the museum you’ll want to sign up for this Big Deal first – the exhibition’s companion book that includes not only images of the installations but also photos of Suite 850, the Presidential Suite, as it was prepared for the First Family.

And after signing up for this Big Deal, you may also want to sign up for our other offerings this week – tickets to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas Celebration, or tickets to Texas Ballet Theater’s The Nutcracker at Bass Hall.

PLEASE NOTE: Only Art&Seek e-newsletter subscribers can win the Big Deal.  If you are not a subscriber then you can subscribe here, then sign up below for a chance to win the companion book, Hotel Texas: An Art Exhibition for the President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy.

UPDATE:  We have our winners. Come back next week for more Big Deals.
