The Big Deal: Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s Spring Celebration At The Wyly Theatre

by Zoee Acosta 2 May 2018 8:31 AM

Dallas Black Dance Theatre 41st season finale features three world premieres.

A sixteen-year veteran of Disney’s Tony Award-winning “The Lion King,” choreographer Ray Mercer likes to create athletic and daring dance works. Mercer’s highly energized “Undeviated Passage” is brilliantly choreographed.

Face it. Don’t sidestep it! “Face what’s facing you!” is an honest soul-stirring exploration of how challenges make us victorious by veteran DBDT dancer Claude Alexander III.

Guest Artist Dark Circles Contemporary Dance goes full-blown nostalgia in Artistic Director Joshua L. Peugh’s “Rattletrap.” You will get the feel of Peugh’s childhood growing up in small town USA.

Ulysses Dove’s choreography captures pure athleticism, intensity, and drama at its finest in “Vespers.” Dove uses six women as vessels of his grandmother’s spirit in a soulful worship. The women of DBDT will captivate the audience with their raw energy and passion in this iconic work that was created in 1986.

DBDT’s Spring Celebration series runs May 18-20, at the Wyly Theatre. Sign up and win this Big Deal and receive a pair of tickets for the Sunday, May 20, 2:30 p.m. performance.
