Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan

TITAS presents Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, one of the world’s greatest mariachi groups, on Sept. 7 at the Winspear Opera House. From the Art&Seek calendar listing:

“You haven’t experienced the energy and rich culture of mariachi music until you’ve experienced the Vargas. Since their founding 103 years ago, the Vargas has stayed true to their roots while expanding the musical form in surprising new directions.”

We have five pairs of tickets for five lucky winners to that performance.

Jazz Roots

Also, the Jazz Roots series at the Winspear Opera House kicks off Sept. 8 with a performance by Shemekia Copeland and the James Cotton “Super Harp” Blues Band.  From the Art&Seek calendar listing:

“Kicking off the 2010-11 “Jazz Roots” season are two generations of blues stars: James Cotton, the Grammy-winning blues legend, whose harmonica sound has embraced virtually every major blues legend, from Howlin’ Wolf to Muddy Waters, and Shemekia Copeland, who grew up surrounded by the blues, as the daughter of the great guitar legend Johnny Copeland.”

We also have five pairs of tickets to give away to five winners.
