The Big Deal: A Day At The Modern To See ‘Ruckus Rodeo’

by Gila Espinoza 15 Jan 2020 1:31 AM

What could be more fun than a visit to the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum’s exhibit, “Ruckus Rodeo,” 1975–76, by the New York-based pop artist Red Grooms. The exhibit just happens to coincide with the 2020 Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show at the Will Rogers Memorial Complex. It is on view at The Modern from January 17th – March 29th.

Grooms’ immense, walk-through work of art covers 1,237 square feet of gallery space. “Ruckus Rodeo” portrays the chaos, entertainment, and danger of the rodeo. The artist’s interest in folk art puppets and toys is evident, and his rich, arbitrary use of bold, unmodulated colors combined with angular contours creates a loud, brash ambiance. “Ruckus Rodeo” celebrates the grand heritage of Fort Worth and the mythology of the American West, and it continues to be a beloved work in the Modern’s collection.

Win this Big Deal and make it an all-day affair with admission for two to the museum and the exhibition, lunch for two at Café Modern, and a copy of the new collection catalog “Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Collection Highlights” featuring 220 works of art by over 150 artists.
