The summer movie season doesn’t officially kick off ’til next Friday with the release of Iron Man 3. But I can already safely say that one of the seasons best will be The Kings of Summer. If you saw it at the Dallas International Film Festival, you know it’s an equal parts sweet and salty look at a couple of teenage boys who decide to leave the neighborhood behind for the summer to live in a fort they’ve built in the woods. Of course, paradise is fleeting. Lessons are learned. Kings of Summer hits all the coming-of-age beats.
The movie doesn’t come out locally until May 31. But waiting until opening day is for suckers. You’ve got a chance to see it at a promo screening May 1 at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas. Just print off your pass and get there early – this is a first come, first served deal. But this one’s worth the effort.
