For their Cultural Awareness Series, Dallas Black Dance Theatre seizes the time to embrace and celebrate cultures. Dance, poetry, and a live Second Line brass band are used to observe the 12-year-anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Choreographer and Hurricane Katrina survivor Michelle N. Gibson weaves movements and traditions of New Orleans culture into the dance Displaced, Yet Rebirthed. DBDT reaches back into its repertoire to pay tribute to an iconic leader in His Grace. The dance by Christopher L. Huggins is dedicated to former South African President Nelson Mandela.
