UPDATE FROM THE DSO:

Due to weather, today’s DSO Symphony in the City Parks Concert has moved from Flag Pole Hill to the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. Pre-concert music by Rob Holbert at 7:30 PM. Concert begins at 8:15 PM.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is celebrating the return of summer with their annual outdoor concert performances.

“The DSO has a decades long tradition of playing in Dallas parks during the summer time,” said Kim Noltemy, DSO President and CEO. “This year, we’ll perform in three different parks throughout Dallas for a series called Symphony in the City.”

The tradition kicks off Monday with a Memorial Day Concert at Flag Pole Hill in Dallas. The free, hour-long concert features a program of patriotic favorites and American classics. To top off the evening, the show concludes with a firework display.

The program also includes music from saxophonist Rob Holbert, who opens the show. Holbert is part of the Dallas’ Office of Arts & Culture’s Community Artist Program, an initiative whose goal is to support and provide opportunities for African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, and Native American artists to teach, perform, and exhibit at host facilities in Dallas neighborhoods.

Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, pack a picnic dinner, and enjoy an evening under the stars.

If you have plans on Memorial Day, you’ll still have two more chances to catch a DSO Symphony in the City. The same program of music will be performed at Kidd Springs Park on June 3 and Paul Quinn College on June 15. All of these family-friendly performances are free and will be led by guest conductor Michelle Merrill.

In the event of rain, the Memorial Day Concert will be moved to the Meyerson Symphony Center and the Paul Quinn Concert will be moved to the Tiger’s Den Gymnasium.
