As summer approaches, Farmers Branch’s outdoor concert series, Denton Drive Live, is welcoming guests back to live music and kids activities.

The free monthly concerts, located at The Grove at Mustang Station, will headline bands Just Like Pink, a Pink tribute band, and Moving Colors, a high-energy dance show, on Saturday.

“Everyone is over-the-top excited and thankful that we are doing something and doing something to try and feel normal,” said Meagan Bernard, events coordinator for the City of Farmers Branch.

Accompanying the live music, there will be food from Nuevo Leon Mex-Mex Restaurant, adult beverages, balloon artists, face painters and shaved ice. A new addition to The Grove at Mustang Station is a Love Locks arts sculpture, implemented by the Famers Branch Arts and Culture Committee, in partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department. Guests are encouraged to participate and add a padlock.

The program kicked off in late spring of 2020. The pandemic did not cut the concert series short, which led to the parks and recreation program winning a 2020 DFW Directors Association award in Excellence in Arts and Entertainment Programming. The city implemented social circles spaced out by eight feet and required guests to wear masks.

Bernard said the program directors have been questioned by 11 cities in the state about the efforts to keep performances alive during the pandemic.

“It’s been fun to be the leader of the pack and getting events back on the calendars,” Bernard said.

The second season of Denton Drive Live kicked off in April, and already staff are noticing a bigger crowd coming in this year.

“You can see it in their eyes as they’re walking up, of how excited they are to sit in a park and listen to live music and absolutely relax, which people haven’t been able to do in a long time,” Bernard said.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets and follow COVID precautions

Here’s the schedule for Denton Drive Live’s concert series:

  • May 8th – Just Like Pink/Moving Colors
  • June 12th – PriMadonna/Even It Up
  • July 10th- CANTA Rhythm and Brass/Bibi Bibi Banda
