Share Your Fort Worth Memories For Projection Artwork On Iconic Pioneer Tower

by Gila Espinoza 20 Jan 2021 7:00 PM

Fort Worth’s digital public art project is put on pause due to the pandemic. The delay means there’s still time to contribute to the archival data that will be used to create the large-scale interactive work.

CTA TBD

If you’re waiting to see Pioneer Tower on the Will Rogers Memorial Complex in Fort Worth light up with a projected video installation, you’ll have to wait a little longer.

Media artists Refik Anadol and David Quayola were expected to debut their mapping video artwork, “Pioneer Tower Dream,” in early February. Due to the increased number of COVID cases, Fort Worth Public Art and the city of Fort Worth, who commissioned the work, have decided to push back the premiere until later in the year.

Digital representation of Refik Anadol’s Pioneer Tower Dreams. Anadol’s work incorporates artificial intelligence to interpret large data sets of individual images into a single, animated work, which will be projected onto four sides of Pioneer Tower.

“Pioneer Tower Dream” is meant to be a celebration and visual representation of the citizens of Fort Worth’s collective memories of the city – its “people, places, histories, and dreams of the city that have been woven together through interpersonal and social interactions over the years.”

The “memories” are added to a database that will be incorporated in Anadol’s final work and then projected on the façade of Pioneer Tower.

The delay means the artists’ Call for Memories has been extended to January 31. Memories can be images or written stories and can be submitted at www.pioneertowerdreams.org
