Are you a musician, DJ or producer? A club owner, symphony conductor or sound engineer?

Then you may want to take this 2020 Dallas Music Ecosystem Survey.

A coalition including Sound Music Cities,  Music Cities Together and Visit Dallas are coordinating the online survey on the Dallas music scene and its community. 

“We believe music people are the most appropriate and effective leaders of their own industry, deserving of support and recognition by civic partners,” said Sound Music Cities in a statement. “This music industry research project should be a call-to-action for them to speak up and become more engaged.”

The survey seeks to identify issues in the music community around health, environment, education, equity and economics.

Most of the questions reference 2019 information and are targeted towards those involved professionally in the Dallas music economy and live in the Metroplex. Musicians, booking agents, venue staff, symphony members and more can file information.

“We acknowledge we are in a pandemic that has been devastating to the Dallas music ecosystem,” said Sound Music Cities on the survey instructions. 

To get a robust view of the city’s music community, organizers hope to gather at least 1,500 responses. Data will be released in September. 

The partnership between Sound Music Cities and Music Cities Together gathers a music census to provide a baseline for policy-makers and for the broader community to understand it. Dallas is one of 13 participating cities to be involved with the initiative.
