Every day on Art&Seek, we’re talking to people who have tips on art in the time of social distancing. Share yours with us on Facebook, Instagram, or @artandseek on Twitter. Click above to hear William Girón and Bernardo Vallarino share their tip with KERA’s Nilufer Arsala.
Artes de la Rosa in Fort Worth’s Northside, operates the award-winning youth program, Artes Academy.
Executive Director William Girón and artist and board member Bernardo Vallarino wants everyone to know that Artes de la Rosa and its Artes Academy are up and running and open for business this summer.
They are just wrapping up their first session of on-site summer camps and are registering for their second session. The camp will run July 6 through July 31 and is open to 3rd through 12th grade students.
These are very popular camps and they normally run about 80 students through the camps plus a wait list. But to adhere to CDC, state and local authority guidelines they have limited the number of students to just 30. Students are separated in different classrooms throughout the whole building so they are able to maintain the 6 feet social distancing recommendation with no problem. They also have a cleaning technician on site to consistently clean throughout the whole camp. Bonus, Artes de la Rosa provides free lunches for the campers.
For non-campers, Vallarino suggests you check out their virtual programming online on their Facebook page.

“La Puntadita” is a cooking series with Chef Cecilia López. She posts the ingredients in advance so you can follow and cook along with her. In the video just posted, Chef López demonstrates how to make cerviche. López says the flavorful seafood dish is known as the national dish of Peru.
Artes de la Rosa has added a smaller gallery space. The Annex Gallery’s current exhibition is “Heroes Mexicanos.” The Mexican comics and memorabilia featured in the exhibition come from the collection of UTA professor Dr. Christopher Conway. You can view the exhibition at the gallery by making an appointment or you can visit the digital version online.
Whether you see the exhibition in person or online be sure to check out this conversation with Dr. Conway first. Conway gives some great insights and information that brings the characters and stories from the comic books to life.
