The Class of 2020 is missing out on plenty of milestones due to COVID-19, but music venues in Deep Ellum are making sure that high school seniors can have at least one of those experiences online.

The Bomb Factory, Canton Hall and Trees have teamed up to host a virtual prom on Saturday, May 16.

“Bomb Prom 2020” will feature a vote for royal court, surprise celebrity cameos, a virtual photo booth and a DJ battle between High School Hype and Kings of Prom.

Chelsey Oliver, a marketing coordinator for the venues, will be the night’s MC.

“It’s a virtual experience, but we’re trying to make it as normal as possible for people,” Oliver says. “We want to give back, bring people together and keep spirits up during this weird time that we’re going through.”

The venues are also encouraging seniors to shop at local businesses in Deep Ellum before the event through a curated goodie box.

They’ve partnered with local businesses including the flower shop Petal Pushers and the fried chicken restaurant Brick & Bones to put together a shopping list of hand-selected prom items that attendees can purchase.

The event is free and open to the public. The virtual prom will start streaming at 8 p.m. via Vimeo, Facebook Live, Twitch. Visit The Bomb Factory’s website for more information.
