Every day on Art&Seek, we’re asking people for their tips on how to experience art virtually. Share yours with us on Facebook, Instagram or @artandseek on Twitter. Click above to listen to Sarah Spirals from Ecstatic Dance Dallas share her tip with KERA’s Nilufer Arsala.
According to their website, Ecstatic Dance Dallas is a movement, music, and heart-centered community. Normally, the group gathers in person at spaces in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denton, for free-form dance. These gathering spaces are all-inclusive, no-judgment zones. There are also no substances or cell phones allowed. The goal is to gather together in community, de-stress from the daily grind, and activate joy.
DJ Sarah Spirals was introduced to Ecstatic Dance in 2010 when Monica Blossom first founded Ecstatic Dance Dallas. “The cathartic experience of dancing my emotions carries a lasting impression and continues to provide a constant source of inspiration in my life,” Sarah says. “Now I’m one of the resident DJs who creates intricately woven musical journeys for our events.”
The Ecstatic Dance gatherings are now virtual, with meetings Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays via Zoom. Sarah says that now, more than ever, authentic movement, creative self-expression, the best possible music, and human connection are important. Everyone is welcome at Ecstatic Dance Sessions and information on how to join is available on the Ecstatic Dance Dallas Facebook Page.
