The Reunion Tower, a Dallas skyline staple, is known for its extravagant and dazzling light shows during holidays or special events. For example, on July 4th, the giant lit-up sphere features patriotic imagery. During Christmas-time the globe has colors of green and red. Last week, Reunion Tower unveiled a special light show series called, “Light Up Dallas.”

You may be asking, “Why have a light show during a pandemic?” I asked Dusti Groskreutz, the President of Reunion Tower, that very question.

“These light shows have been a beacon of information in the city of Dallas,” Groskreutz said. “People look to the tower for messages. We just want to shine bright for Dallas in these unprecedented times.”

So far the show has featured patriotic and hopeful imagery like red, white and blue hearts and messages saying, “Be Safe, Be home, Be strong.” The series of inspirational messages will go on for the next couple of weeks, said Groskreutz.

“We just want to be there for Dallas and DFW. For the whole nation, really,” Groskreutz said. The Reunion Tower has seen support and feedback to the new light show through social media. You can follow them @ReunionTower on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

An Instagram user by the name of @idasifuentes stated, “We all need a bit of sparkle in our lives right now. Thank you! ❤️,” on one of the Reunion Tower’s Instagram posts featuring the positive imagery.

“People are really enjoying the positivity that’s happening all around on social media and in neighborhoods,” Groskreutz said. “People interacting through putting chalk messages on driveways and visiting senior centers and seeing them through windows and things like that.”

The two restaurants located in the Reunion Tower, Five Sixty and the Cloud Nine Cafe, are both closed due to the coronavirus. The Reunion Tower is also closed until at least April 30. Follow The Reunion Tower’s social media to see more of this light show and updates on the closure.

“We’re all in this together and we love our city. We’re gonna get through this,” Groskreutz said. “Texas is strong, Dallas is strong, and the Reunion Tower is strong.”
