It seems as if a lot of music docs are making the rounds these days, so I’ll add to the list “ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band From Texas.”
Last year the band marked its 50th anniversary, and this film covers all the bases – from the story of Dusty Hill leaving Dallas for Houston to join forces with Frank Beard and Billy Gibbons … to how the band became ambassadors for Texas music and culture.
Director Sam Dunn asked the band to set up in New Braunfels historic Gruene Hall, and watching the trio play not in front of a crowd, but in an empty room just for one another, really highlights the intimacy between these three guys who’ve been through so much together.
Watch it now on Netflix or Amazon Prime. And check out my interview with Dunn from November.
