Artpace has announced it has opened applications for their 2021 international artist-in-residence program, called the Texas Open Call. Applications are open until Aug. 2 at 5 p.m., with three positions open: one for an artist from Texas, another from the greater 49 states and finally, a slot to be filled with an international artist. Artpace hosts three residencies throughout the year, meaning there will be a total of nine positions open in 2021.
“The mission of this program is to provide artists from varied disciplines with unparalleled resources and support,” Artpace said on their website. “That allows them to experiment with new ideas and take provocative risks.”
Those who are selected for the residency will receive travel expenses, an apartment for the residency, a living stipend, access to wood and metal-working setups, and more.
The Texas Open Call is only open to artists who have lived in Texas for at least one year at the time of application. Those who are ineligible to apply are as follows: current students, Artpace staff, and members of the Board of Directors—as well as their spouses or domestic partners and immediate family, along with past Artpace artist residents.
“There are so many talented artists working in Texas,” Artpace’s Residency and Exhibitions manager Erin Murphy said. “And my goal is to get more of their work in front of curators.”
Members of Artpace are able to waive their application fee. Apply to the Texas Open Call for the Artpace residency here.
